- Special Wednesday Tasting with Bill Holloran!
We're excited to welcome the owner of one of our very favorite Willamette Valley wineries to the store this week. Come by this Wednesday (tomorrow!) from 5 to 7 pm and meet Bill Holloran of Holloran Wines.
Bill will pour two delicious Oregon whites, his 2006 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, and the Wine Advocate 90 point single-vineyard Le Pavillon Pinot Noir 2007. He'll also give us an update on the fantastic 2008s on the way, including the delicious and stunning value Stafford Hill Pinot Noir 2008 that arrives in two weeks!
We've brought you Bill Holloran's handcrafted Willamette Valley wines since his second vintage in 2000, and many of you already know the story: technology executive moves to Oregon to raise his family, starts to dabble in wine, hires one of the best young winemakers in Oregon (Jay Somers), buys a famous vineyard (Le Pavillon), and starts turning out classic Willamette Valley wines at silly low prices.
But if you haven't met Bill before, you don't really understand the passion and dedication behind these delicious wines. Come join us this Wednesday from 5-7 pm, get to know Bill a bit, and sample four of his most delicious wines. Three wines open this Friday to enjoy as you kick-off your weekend. First the Moulin Macon-Villages 2008 featured in today’s email - crisp and vibrant but still rich and round. Then, we’ll open a bottle of our Facebook Special rosé - you’ll need to peak there to find out what it is. Last, a really delicious Washington state Cab Franc/Merlot blend that earned 92 points from Wine Advocate and should be selling for $60 - great value from as much as 40% off!
- Mid-Summer Fun Festival - Saturday, July 31 from noon-4:00 pm
For those of us who measure “Summer” by Virginia public school schedules, this weekend is just about the middle of the season. So, we’re having a Fun Wine and Food Festival this Saturday. We’ll have cheeses, duck rillettes, fresh bread and olive oil out to taste plus two tables of great wines. Great friend of the store Max Evans from Downey Selections will be on hand to pour two crisp, vibrant, Italian whites, a great value California Cab, a big Shiraz, and the absolutely delicious Poppiano Morellino di Scansano.
And, Andrea Wallace from great local importer LVDH will be on hand with five great wines too. Whites will include the last few cases of the stunning Mas de Chabert Roussane 2009, a great value Sancerre, and today’s email feature Macon-Villages. For reds, we’re going California - the rich, luscious, BigVine Napa Cab and the estate Merlot from Ledgewood Creek (the folks who bring us Owl House). And, as always, everything on tasting will be available at great tasting prices. We look forward to seeing you!
