Coming from the hillsides of Maremma, whcih is in the western part of Tuscany, this Italian red is one of the softest we've tasted. The wine is a blend of Sangiovese grosso, Alicante, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine displays aromas of gentle dark cherry. The palate contains flavors of lush peppered plum and anise. Meaty characteristics of apple-wood smoked bacon abound. The finish is long and smoldering. The lush tannins make it perfect for grilled meats.

This wine is made in the traditional manner, by aging for 3 years in small chestnut barrels in the eaves of the home of the winemaker. It offers flavors of baking spices, maple syrup, caramel and toffee. It is slightly sweet and is often served with biscotti as a simple dessert. And, with nearly 9 years of aging, it's drinking just perfectly right now! (500ml bottle)
