- Quinta Seara D'ordens White Port Product #20665 (In Stock)

White port is one of the world's most civilized aperitifs -- served cold (or even over ice!), it is fresh, luscious, and beguilingly sweet. Quinta Seara's D'Ordens white port is made from Malvasia and other local grapes and is a blend of different vintages, aged in used oak barrels and stainless steel vats. A very fresh and fruity nose leads to a fine and round texture with notes of toast, spice and honey. Serve alone before dinner or at the end of your meal with medium-sweet desserts. Or, for a light, refreshing cocktail, mix it with Cointreau, vermouth (an ultralight version of a martini) or Cassis for a unique Kir.

Although still more famous for sweet Port, Portugal’s Douro Valley increasingly delivers robust but classy dry wines that are perfect foils for rich food and cool nights. The young estate of Conceito was founded by winemaker Rita Ferreira and her husband just a few years ago, but the wines are already compelling. Rita benefits from a long-time friendship/mentoring relationship with Dirk Niepoort – scion of the Niepoort Port family and the greatest innovator and advocate for dry reds from the Douro Valley.
The Conceito Douro Red 2006 is a blend of juice from 15 different traditional Douro grape varieties. These 50 year-old vines grow on poor, rocky, steep vineyards in a south-facing amphitheater along the Teja River. The 420 case production spends 20 months in one new and one used French oak barrel.
What does it taste like? The only word I can conjure up is “Outstanding!” The nose oozes intense earthy spice, dark forest berries, and a jolt of smoky slate typical of great Douro reds. In the mouth, this is rich and deep and very complex - black fruit, asian spices, more slate, and a long, lingering, finish. While the wine speaks clearly of Portugal, it’s a powerful, rich, wine that will appeal to anyone who loves great Ribera del Duero, Argentine Malbec, or Rhone blends. Despite the slightly odd label, a wine not to miss, but only 13 cases remaining in the USA!
- Conceito Branco Douro 2008 Product #22534 (In Stock)

The wine opens with wild and complex aromas of Clementine, orange peel, star fruit, passion fruit and just a touch of hazelnut. Although fairly full-bodied, there is great energy here with complex flavors of tropical fruit, melon, almond and hazelnut. The finish sails on and on.
"This relatively new winery now has an importer, and looks to be a “comer.” Energetic, young Rita Marques is making interesting wines here already. The future looks bright. The 2008 BRANCO comes from granitic soil and an old, pre-phylloxera vineyard 500 meters above sea level. It is a typical Douro blend of Rabigato, Codega do Larinho, Codega, Viosinho and Gouveio. Fresh and fairly complex, with a spicy note on the finish, a hint of green apple and good acidity, it is light in the mid-palate, but more persistent than seems apparent at first, developing beautifully with air and coating the palate. Elegant and attractive, very tasty, yet not at all simple, it is gripping on the finish and there is, perhaps, a touch of tannin. It is pretty pricey, but stylish. Although it spent 10 months in oak (a combination of French and Caucasian), only 40% new, it seems remarkably clean and fresh."Wine Advocate 90 points
