We're not sure how Monte Degli Angeli found Sangiovese like this down in the hot heel of the Italian boot, but we're really glad they did! The aromas are rich and dark, with lots of black cherry and a hint of balsamic. In the mouth the wine is round and energetic, with cherry and black raspberry fruit complemented by hints of damp earth. If you like Sangiovese-based wines like Chianti or our best-selling Colsanto from Umbria, you'll love this! The wine is ripe, fresh, and fruit-driven with a wonderful dash of earthy complexity at the end. Buy it by the case and drink with pizza, grilled poultry, and pasta.

Here's a new-world take on one of Southern Italy's most interesting varietals, Primitivo. The folks from Hundred Acre in California source the fruit for this wine from an old-vine vineyard in Salento, the “Heel of the Boot” of Italy. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, a portion of the wine spends a year or so in small barrels to gain complexity and softness.
This is an inky black wine that bursts with ripe black frui, spice, and white pepper aromas. In the mouth, robust flavors of jammy black cherries, plums, blackberry fruit, truffles, tar, and espresso. Coming from the hillsides of Maremma, whcih is in the western part of Tuscany, this Italian red is one of the softest we've tasted. The wine is a blend of Sangiovese grosso, Alicante, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine displays aromas of gentle dark cherry. The palate contains flavors of lush peppered plum and anise. Meaty characteristics of apple-wood smoked bacon abound. The finish is long and smoldering. The lush tannins make it perfect for grilled meats.
