- Ch Montaud Cotes De Provence Rose 2009 375 Ml Product #23303 (In Stock)
-
-
We fell in love with this classic rosé of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault the first time we tasted it. It’s a pale pink wine bursting with wild strawberry fruit and a lovely herbal note at beginning and end. Very dry and completely refreshing and attractively packaged in the traditional curvy Provencal rose bottle.
We were a little surprised to see Wine Spectator recognize the quality here, but not at all surprised that in-the-know demand spiked right away. We felt lucky to secure one last allocation of a wine we’ve been enjoying all spring. We have 20 cases in stock now and another 10 cases arriving on June 22. So, get yours while you can! - Dom Chapelle St Arnoux Cotes Du Ventoux 2006 Product #22865 (In Stock)
-
-
This is just about everything you could want for less than $10. A juicy, ripe, blend of Grenache and Syrah, this wine bursts with ripe berry fruit, notes of licorice and fresh turned earth, and even a hint of citrusy acidity. It's soft and easy to drink right now, with a bright entry, broad mid-palate, and earthy/fruity finish. Drink it with grilled chicken, roast pork, or just about anything. Fine value!
- Dom Philippe Plantevin Vaucluse 2006 Product #21800 (In Stock)
-
-
From one of our favorite Rhone producers, the 2006 Vaucluse brings a soft dried rose petal to nose, with brighter notes of raspberry and red plum on the nose. On the palate, the jusice is relaxed and easy-going. The Grenache delivers a spiced raspberry and the syrah kicks in with a tinge of inky blueberry. A fresh wine that is easy to enjoy with something classic like an herb, roasted Chicken, or something a little more domesic, like barbecue ribs. Either/or, it's easy to enjoy.
- Reserve De La Dame a l'Oiseau CdR Rouge 2008 Product #22716 (In Stock)
-
-
There are some great values coming out of the Southern Rhone these days, and this is one of them. Just what a wine of this class should be - juicy, fresh, and very easy to drink. A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah, the wine is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel tank. It's crimson red with a generous nose of cassis, blackberry, garrigues, leather and smoke. Medium-full in body with moderate acidity and soft tannins, the wine offers flavors of black currant, blackberry, white pepper and anise. Warm and rich with intense fruit, it is beautifully balanced to enjoy now and over the next 5-6 years. The finish is long, rich and aromatic. This is very flexible with food, but will shine with roasted chicken, grilled meats, mushrooms, pastas and cheeses. Or pizza. Or burgers. Oh, just drink it!
- Les Amis De La Bouissiere Rouge 2008 Product #22252 (In Stock)
-
-
Bouissiere makes one of the best Gigondas for the money you'll ever find, but their "Les Amis" blend is an even better value. A blend of Grenache, Syrah plus a little Merlot, the 2008 Les Amis once again gives the impression of being a "baby Gigondas." Aromas of black cherry, kirsch, earth and a hint of lavender jump out of the glass. In the mouth, the wine is silky and fresh, with more cherry and raspberry fruit, earth, a hint of herb and maybe even a note of fresh ground coffee. The finish is clean and bright with very light, ripe, tannin. A great everyday Rhone value!
- Dom Les Genestas Cdr Village 2007 Product #22451 (In Stock)
-
-
Have you tried our red box wine, From the Tank? It's made by the same co-op that brings us this lovely CdR Village from the great 2007 vintage. It may be the only organic co-op in the world! This little gem is a blend of 40% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 25% Carignan - and you can certainly taste the blue/black fruit signature of Carignan. The wine is juicy and fresh and very fruit-driven - blackberry and blueberry - with a nice floral element lending complexity. Great party wine!
- Saint Cosme CdR 2008 Product #22769 (In Stock)
-
-
Saint-Cosme is best known for their block-buster Gigondas, but they do a fine job with fresh and ready-to-drink Cotes du Rhone, too. Nice value and great with burgers, grilled chicken, or just on its own.
"Toasty, with violet, fig bread and black currant notes laced with mocha and dark licorice hints. The fleshy, polished finish has a tobacco twinge to keep this honest. Drink now."Wine Spectator 88 points
- Mas De Gourgonnier Les Baux De Provence 2008 Product #22889 (In Stock)
-
-
A fine follow-up to the great 2007, the new vintage of Mas de Gourgonnier is a Provenceal classic. Mostly a 50/50 blend of Carignan and Grenache, the wine always contains variable amounts of Cabernet Sauvigon and Syrah. In the slightly cooler 2008 vintage, the wine has more grace and finesse than in 2007. A wonderfully complex nose of fresh plums, sandalwood, ginger, cinnamon, lavender, and a hint of game leads to a medium-bodied, finely tanninc wine. Flavors of juniper and cassis get complexity from notes of smoke and roasted meat. A fine complement to any meal, this will drink well now and for another 5+ years.
- Robert Hall Rhone De Robles Red 2006 Product #22246 (In Stock)
-
-
"Award-winning red-Rhone blend. Perfect food wine with cherry and cranberry fruit flavor delicately balanced by rich, silky tannins. Aromas of blueberry with a hint of black pepper and spice.
Our 2006 Rhone de Robles was produced from hand-harvested grapes picked in mid-September. Following harvest, the grapes were crushed to small fermenters and inoculated for fermentation with yeast strains known for enhancing the Rhone varietal flavors. Fermentation and maceration on the skins lasted 10 days and was aided by using traditional pump over to maximize color and flavor liberation. After fermentation and maceration, the wine was drawn off and pressed to a blend of French and eastern European oak barrels where it completed malolactic fermentation and matured for 14 months. It received a final racking to stainless steel, where the blend was assembled and prepared for bottling." Winery Notes - Dom Les Ondines Vacqueyras Blanc 2008 Product #22659 (In Stock)
-
-
A great example of a white Rhone, the 2008 Ondines Vacqueyras Blanc will scratch your itch for a great white Chateanuef du Pape at a fraction of the price. The wine opens with really pretty, complex, aromas of orchard fruits, white flower and mineral. In the mouth, it shows a classic Rhone oily texture with enough acidity to keep the wine fresh and bright, too. The swirling flavors of tangerine, white peach, flowers and fresh cream linger nicely on the long finish.
- Dom Philippe Plantevin CdR Visan 2008 Product #23242 (In Stock)
-
-
Philippe Plantevin is one of the most "serious" winemakers we know of working in the villages of the southern Rhone and Vauclouse. This Cotes du Rhone Villages from the commune of Visan is a fine example. It's loaded with dark black berry fruit accented by baking spice, plums, fresh turned earth, and a dash of minerally slate. The licorice/lavender notes are especially intriguing. It's rich for 2008 but still wonderfully balanced and fresh. Great wine for anything grilled or roasted.
- Dom Le Couroulu Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes 2007 Product #23335 (In Stock)
-
-
Guy Ricard only makes about 700 cases of his top Vacqueyras from the oldest vines on his estate. The Grenache and Syrah used for this cuvee are both so concentrated and dark that Guy adds no Mourvedre. Still, amazing minerality and focus in such a big wine. I tend to agree with Tanzer that a few years will improve this, but it’s in prime condition to enjoy with robust food now.
“Deep ruby. Powerful aromas of dark cherry, cassis and smoky herbs. Much more serious than the classique, with a deeper, darker fruit profile, more body and mounting sweetness. Unlike the basic bottling, this will demand-not just reward-patience. The finish is broad, sweet and very long.”International Wine Cellar 92 points
“An absolute whopper of a Vacqueyras is the 2007 Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes, which comes from their oldest vines and is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Licorice, charcoal, blackberry and cassis notes, along with hints of lavender and pepper, jump from the glass of this inky/purple-colored wine. Layered and multi-dimensional, with superb purity, fleshy, concentrated fruit, and perfect balance, this wine has an uncanny ability to be substantial in size but remains surprisingly elegant, with admirable purity. This is a super Vacqueyras to drink over the next 7-8 years.”Wine Advocate 93 points
- Dom De Cristia Gigondas 2006 Product #22683 (In Stock)
-
-
We loved this estate's 2006 Chateauneuf-du-Pape around Christmastime, and now we're very impressed with the 2006 Gigondas. Mainly Grenache with a dollop of Syrah, the wine starts out shy and then blossoms with 30 minutes or so of air. Classic aromas of dark red berries, thyme and rosemary, and a bit of dark earth lead to a focused, medium-bodied wine featuring black raspberry and red cherry fruit, herbs, and a hint of grilled bread. Plenty big enough for Gigondas, but sophisticated, too.
- Tablas Creek Vineyard Cotes De Tablas Rouge 2008 Product #23011 (In Stock)
-
-
Of all the "Rhone Rangers" working in California's Paso Robles Valley, Tablas Creek has proven itself the most consistently excellent. Drawing on the expertise of the co-owner Perrin family (Ch Beaucastel), Tablas Creek turns out ripe, balanced, and very delicious wines year-after-year. The 2008 Cotes de Tablas Rouge is another successful vintage for this great value offering. The wine has a floral aromatic that is quite seductive. The palate is a bit juicier than previous vintages, with currants, spiced strawberry, and granny smith apple skin in the back. The wine is also a bit more tanninc than previous vintages, but their presence is well integratted and gives some guts to the juicy raspberries in the front palate. Easy to drink now, this will also improve for another 5 years.
- Perrin & Fils Gigondas La Gille 2007 Product #22743 (In Stock)
-
-
The 2007 Gigondas Le Gille is performing even better than it was last year. A 2,500-case blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah grown in sandy soils, it exhibits sweet tannins, beautifully rich black raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with unmistakable minerality, and full body. It was obviously harvested at full phenolic maturity, and should age nicely for 10-15+ years.
One of the great estates of the Rhone Valley, Chateau Beaucastel has been run by several generations of the Perrin family. Beaucastel has nearly 200 acres in vine in Chateauneuf du Pape, and they have branched out with an impressive operation under the Perrin et Fils label, purchasing grapes and acquiring land (in Vinsobres and Gigondas, for example). Their goal is to become the most recognized name for high quality wines in the southern Rhone. Wine Advocate 92 points
- Dom Les Pallieres Gigondas 2006 Product #22800 (In Stock)
-
-
Another prime example of how the under-rated 2006 vintage in the Rhone delivered many wines of class and complexity. This blend of of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre/Cinsault comes to us from the Brunier family who also own Vieux Telegraphe in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Most of the Grenache comes from 75 year-old vines that give the wine great depth and complexity. Classic Gigondas.
"Medium red. Complex nose offers scents of strawberry, raspberry, fresh flowers, minerals and Asian spices. Focused and pure, reminiscent of a serious Burgundy, with sweet red berry flavors and a firming note of cherry skin. Silky tannins add focus to the long, sappy finish."International Wine Cellar 92 points
- From The Tank CdR Rouge Product #22311 (In Stock)
-
-
Here's a fantastic bargain in juicy, fruit-forward, Cotes du Rhone in the perfect package to keep on hand for parties, dinners, or just sipping night after night. The From the Tank project was founded by Jenny & Francois Selections, an importer focusing on organic and natural wines. The wine was made a solid Rhone co-op, and it's full of Rhone flavor - red fruit, licorice, plum and a touch of earth. Identified as one of "Four Great Boxed Wines" by Oprah Magazine and lauded by Forbes, this is a stunning value - the equivilent of 4 bottles of wine for the price of three. And, the recycled packaging and naturally made wine are easy on the environment, too!
- Clos Du Caillou Chateauneuf Du Pape Les Safres 2007 Product #22487 (In Stock)
-
-
A small but sensational estate, Clos du Caillou came to my attention when the property was acquired in the mid-1990s by Jean-Denis Vacheron and his wife Sylvie. After a succession of brilliant wines, Jean-Denis was tragically killed in an automotive accident in 2002. It has taken a few years to get the estate back to the level that existed there between 1998 and 2001, but that has certainly been accomplished over recent vintages.
The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Safres is dominated by 95% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault, all from vines over 50 years old. This wine exhibits tremendous spice box, sweet black cherries, a resiny pine forest note, and abundant pepper. In the mouth it is undeniably seductive, with full-bodied lushness, beautifully pure fruit, a textured mouthfeel, and a terrific finish. This wine can be drunk now or cellared for 10-12 years.Wine Advocate 90 points
- Andre Brunel Les Cailloux Chateauneuf-du-pape Blanc 2008 Product #22748 (In Stock)
-
-
This is the only white Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the store. Why? I don't buy them - they're usually too expensive, too oily, too prone to oxidization, just plain too much. Then I had the chance to sit down with Andre Brunel in his tasting room in the Rhone Valley and taste this gem. 80% Roussanne with just 10% each of Grenache Blanc and Clairette, this is unusually bright, mineral, and complex. Lots of body and a touch of oil, but great balance and the finish has to be experienced to be believed. Drink on it's own, with freshwater fish in a rich sauce or even with Thai food laced with basil.
Rich but focused, with a gorgeous core of Jonagold apple, persimmon and lemon verbena notes backed by a mouthwatering salted butter finish. Offers lovely precision and length. Drink now through 2010. 400 cases made.Wine Spectator 92 points
- Ch De Vaudieu Chateauneuf Du Pape 2007 Product #23197 (In Stock)
-
-
“One of the oldest estates in Chateauneuf du Pape (the winery, which is actually a true chateau, was constructed in the mid-1700s), Chateau de Vaudieu is located adjacent to Rayas, just a few kilometers northeast of the village. One of the appellation-s largest estates (175 acres in vine), Vaudieu’s quality has soared over recent years as the famed oenologist Philippe Cambie has been working here since 2003. The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is a full-bodied, exceptionally aromatic effort displaying plenty of sweet black cherry, licorice, garrigue, and earth as well as a subtle note of oak in a full-bodied, opulent style. As the wine sits in the glass, whiffs of raspberries and figs also emerge from this substantial, fleshy, irresistible Chateauneuf du Pape. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.”Wine Advocate 92 points
“This is saturated, with braised fig, melted black licorice and freshly brewed espresso notes forming the core, with bittersweet ganache, mesquite and iron notes weaving through the background. The long, tarry finish has really nice drive. A domaine on the rise. Drink now through 2022. 4,192 cases made.”Wine Spectator 92 points
