Although it's Grand Cru white Burgundy from one of the best vintages for white Burgs in the past 10 years, Pascal Maillard's 2006 Corton Grand Cru is surprisingly accessible today. It's fairly rare to find white wine from Corton, but Pascal grows this in a small vineyard he grafted over from Pinot Noir after noticing how chalky and full of limestone the soil was.  In the ripe 2006 vintage, this gives up an opulent nose of fresh butter, tropical fruit, lime peel, and a dash of cherval and mint.  In the mouth, the wine is rich but perfectly balanced with mango, papaya, pineapple, and ripe apple fruit framed by a touch of butter, firm minerality, and some zesty citrus acidity.  The finish sails on forever.  This will peak around 2015, but given a brief spell in decanter delivers loads of pleasure now.
